Change is coming to USPS – Here is what you need to know!
The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is rolling out a number of changes this year — and if you rely on USPS for sending letters, packages, or running your business, these updates may affect how you ship and how much you pay.
At The Postal Spot, we’re here to help you make sense of it all and provide reliable,
Stamp Prices Are Going Up
In July, the cost of a Forever stamp will increase by 5 cents, which is about a 7.4% price hike. If you send out invoices, cards, or bulk mail, that increase adds up fast.
💡 Postal Spot Tip: Buy Forever stamps before the increase. We’ve got them in stock now, and they’ll always be valid at the current rate — even after the price goes up.
Slower Delivery in Some Rural & Suburban Areas
The USPS is restructuring delivery routes in several rural and suburban areas across the country. That means some customers will see slower delivery times, fewer delivery days, or different mail carriers altogether.
💡 Postal Spot Tip: We ship through FedEx, UPS, and USPS so you can compare options and choose the one that works best for your location. If USPS service gets delayed, we’ve got alternatives.
Reduced Hours at Some Post Offices
As part of cost-saving measures, some USPS locations are reducing their operating hours or cutting
💡 Postal Spot Tip: We provide USPS Shipping six days a week, with extended hours to serve you better — no long lines, and no closed doors when you need to ship. And yes, we are open on Saturdays from 10am – 2pm!
🌍 International Shipping: More Rules, More Risk
USPS is now enforcing stricter customs declaration rules for international shipments. If your customs forms are vague, missing key details, or incorrectly filled out, your shipment could be delayed,
Here’s what’s required:
-
Clear descriptions of every item (e.g., “leather wallet” instead of “gift”)
-
Quantity, value, and country of origin for each item
-
The reason for the shipment (gift, resale, return, etc.)
💡 Postal Spot Tip: We’ll help you fill out customs paperwork the right way — reducing the chance of delivery problems.
What If the Recipient Doesn’t Pay Import Fees?
Most international shipments come with import taxes, VAT, or duties — and these are usually
-
The package may be held in customs indefinitely
-
It could be returned to you, often after long delays
-
In some cases, it may be discarded or destroyed
-
You will not receive a refund from USPS for shipping or contents
⚠️ Please note: The Postal Spot cannot estimate import fees or taxes, as these vary widely by country and are subject to change without notice. If you’re mailing something internationally, we strongly recommend notifying the recipient in advance so they aren’t caught off guard by extra charges.
